From April 2012, HSE are proposing to charge an estimated £124 (updated from the original £133) per hour for time spent on sites where breaches of Health and Safety legislation are found during an inspection.
This hourly rate has been calculated by taking into account "salaries plus travel, subsistence, corporate services, accommodation, IT etc." and the time the HSE believes it would take to resolve any breaches found.
Understandably, this is not a change that has been welcomed into an industry which is already under great strain from the pressures of the current economic climate.
